Lady Spartans Fall Short at Queens, 56-44
The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team ended their season with a 56-44 loss to the East Coast Conference Regular Season Champs, Queens College. STAC was led by Colleen Vogel and Briana Sloper who scored eleven twelve and eleven points respectively. Sloper added a team high nine rebounds. "This game was a major improvement from our previous two meeting with Queens, commented Head Coach Kim Lusk, we played hard and I'm excited about the future of this program."

Briana Sloper Named ECC Rookie Of The Year
Freshman Briana Sloper was named the 2009 East Coast Conference Rookie of the Year. Sloper set the pace for the Spartans this season averaging a team high 15.1 points per game while adding 7.1 rebounds per game. An eight-time Rookie of the Week selection, Sloper notched seven double-doubles this season and garners All-Conference Second Team honors as well. The freshman finished seventh in the ECC in scoring, 8th in field goal percentage (.478) and 11th in rebounding.

Molloy Tops Lady Spartans, 75-69
The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team dropped a tough game to Molloy College, 75-69. Junior Colleen Vogel scored a game high twenty-one points including 10-10 from the foul line. Freshmen Natalie Catavero and Briana Sloper scored twelve and eleven points respectively. Fellow rookie Kim Vareles pulled down a team high eight rebounds.

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team dropped a road game to NYIT, 59-47. STAC was led by Briana Sloper and Colleen Vogel who scored eighteen and fifteen points respectively. Sloper added a team high eight rebounds while fellow rookie Kim Vareles pulled down seven boards.

STAC Raises $725 with WBCA Pink Zone
On Saturday, February 21st, St. Thomas Aquinas hosted Pink Zone to raise money for the Kay Yow WBCA Cancer Foundation. The womens basketball team wore pink-t-shirts and shoe laces to show their support in the fight against cancer. All proceeds from both the mens and womens basketball games against Bridgeport University were donated. The Spartan SAAC also participated in the event with a Pink Zone table where they sold t-shirts, chocolate lollipops and breast cancer awareness ribbons. Between the games, St. Thomas Aquinas College president, Dr. Margaret Fitzpatrick, was presented with a check for $725 to be donated to the Kay Yow WBCA Cancer Foundation.

Briana Sloper Named Rookie Of The Week
St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball player Briana Sloper was named East Coast Conference Rookie Of The Week for the eighth time this season. Sloper averaged 20.5 points and 10.5 rebounds for the week. The rookie leads the Lady Spartans in scoring and rebounding with 15 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team was defeated by the Purple Knights of Bridgeport, 69-55. Briana Sloper scored eighteen points for STAC while pulling down eleven boards. Theresa Dowling, Kaitlin Page and Colleen Vogel each contributed eight points.

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team lost to Concordia College, 72-69 in yesterday's contest. The Lady Spartans were led by freshman Briana Sloper who scored twenty three points and grabbed ten rebounds. Sylvia Daivs added ten points and five assists for the Lady Spartans.

Briana Sloper Earns Rookie of the Week
Briana Sloper was named the ECC Rookie of the Week for her strong performance last week. Sloper averaged 22.5 points and 9 rebounds for the week. Sloper had a game high 26 points and 11 rebounds in the Lady Spartans win over Mercy College on Saturday. Sloper is one of the leading scorers for the Lady Spartans with 14.8 points per game and leads them in rebounding averaging 6.9 per game.

Freshmen Trio Lead Lady Spartans to Win
The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team beat Mercy College 83-70 on Saturday afternoon. Freshmen Briana Sloper led all scorers with twenty-six points and eleven rebounds. Fellow rookies Natalie Catavero and Sylvia Davis had career highs scoring eighteen and sixteen points respectively. Davis was 4-5 from the field and 8-10 from the foul line. Junior Colleen Vogel added eleven points to round out the double figure scorers.

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team lost to Queens, 72-42. Briana Sloper scored eighteen points on 6-10 shooting from the floor. STAC struggled shooting 15-54 from the floor and 2-11 from behind the arc. Colleen Vogel grabbed a team high six rebounds and finished with eight points.

On Wednesday, February 4th, St. Thomas Aquinas College took part in celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day. All female student athletes were recognized for their academic and athletic accomplishments, while the female athletic administrators were thanked for their hard work in the daily operations of the athletic department.

Briana Sloper was named East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week for the third consecutive week and sixth time overall. Sloper averaged 26 points and 8.5 rebounds for the week. Sloper posted a career high 32 points against Dowling College on Saturday. The forward connected on 10-15 from the field and 12-13 from the foul line. Earlier in the week, Sloper notched 20 points and 9 rebounds against Molloy College.

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team dropped a hard fought contest against regionally ranked Molloy College. Briana Sloper had twenty points and nine rebounds shooting 8-11 from the field. Briana Sloper was named ECC Rookie of the Week as the Lady Spartans went 2-0 in conference play. Sloper averaged 17.5 points and 9.5 rebounds during the week. Sloper is second in scoring for the Lady Spartans averaging 12 points per game. Sloper scored 23 points in STAC's win over NYIT while grabbing 11 rebounds. The rookie also added 12 points and 8 boards in the Lady Spartans win against Bridgeport.

Lady Spartans Win Third in a Row
The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team won their third consecutive game as they defeated NYIT, 68-51. Freshman Briana Sloper scored twenty-three points shooting fifty percent from the field. Sloper and senior Claire Wilson recorded a game high eleven rebounds each. Wilson also chipped in eleven points and four steals. Junior Colleen Vogel scored twelve points for the Lady Spartans while her and teammate Sylvia Davis dished out five assists apiece.

STAC Hosts Take a Kid to the Game Day
On Saturday, the St. Thomas Aquinas College athletic department hosted its annual Take a Kid to the Game Day. Children from the local community had the opportunity to watch the Spartans compete against the Concordia College Clippers in two action-packed basketball games. The children were invited to experience the collegiate game day atmosphere firsthand. They filled the stands providing encouragement for the athletes while some even had the opportunity to show their skills in numerous half time competitions.

Lady Spartans Pull Off 90-86 Road Win Against Bridgeport
The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team beat the University of Bridgeport, 90-86 in Wednesday evenings match-up. The Lady Spartans were led by Colleen Vogel's career high thirty-seven points including a season high five three pointers and 12-12 from the free throw line. STAC shot a season best 22-26 from the free throw line as well as forty seven percent from behind the arc (8-17).

Freshman Briana Sloper was named the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week. Sloper averaged thirteen points and nine rebounds last week including ten points and ten rebounds in the Lady Spartans victory over Concordia. Sloper recorded fifteen points and ten rebounds in a tough loss to Adelphi earlier in the week and was the high scorer with sixteen points against Mercy College. Sloper leads STAC in rebounding with six a game and is second in scoring averaging eleven points per game.

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team got off to a strong start in yesterday's 82-59 win over Concordia. STAC was led by Colleen Vogel's twenty-six points and six rebounds. Vogel shot 4-9 from behind the arc as the Lady Spartans connected on a season high twelve three pointers. Senior Claire Wilson added twelve points and ten rebounds for STAC as well as a team high three steals. Wilson is within the top five for STAC's all time leaders* in steals with 120 for her career.

The Spartans were tied at 57 with 5:34 remaining in the game before surrendering to a 12-4 run by the Panthers. Junior Colleen Vogel scored twenty-four points and had four steals while Briana Sloper added fifteen points and ten rebounds.

The Knights outrebounded the Lady Spartans 62-40 proving to be a difference maker in the game. Jennifer DiChiara led the Knights with twenty-three points and twenty-two rebounds. Briana Sloper scored seventeen for STAC while grabbing nine boards of her own.

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team dropped an 81-71 decision to the Lions of Georgian Court this afternoon. Colleen Vogel led STAC with twenty-seven points and four assists. Vogel connected on the second of two free throws with 1:40 to play to put the Lady Spartans up four (63-59). STAC was unable to score in the closing minutes as the Lions went on a 4-0 run to end regulation tied at 63.

Lady Spartans Pick Up Road Win Against Felician College
The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team won their first road game of the season, 58-54 over the Golden Falcons of Felician College. The Spartans were led by junior Colleen Vogel who scored a career high twenty-four points on 7-15 shooting and 3-6 from behind the arc. Vogel scored a key layup late in the game giving STAC a 55-52 lead and later followed with two free throws to keep it a two possession game with under a minute to play. Freshman Sylvia Davis had a solid all around game after battling injuries for the early part of the seaosn. Davis added eight points and a game high five assists.

This is the third consecutive week Sloper was awarded this honor making her mark as a consistent offensive threat for the Lady Spartans. Sloper scored eleven points and grabbed eight boards in STAC's only game of the week.

Freshman Briana Sloper was named the ECC women's basketball Rookie of the Week. Sloper scored a career high seventeen points in the Lady Spartan's 74-46 victory over Chestnut Hill College. Sloper pulled down five boards and dished out an assist in her fourteen minutes of play. The rookie has come off the bench in all four games this season and is averaging 9.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

The Lady Spartans saw four players reach double figures; Briana Sloper (17), Colleen Vogel (16),Whitney Dugan (12) and Kim Vareles (10). Dugan, who is coming off her second career start, recorded her first double double pulling down eleven rebounds as well. The Lady Spartans, who have struggled offensively in their first two games, received eleven points from freshmen Sally O'Donnell. STAC has not been able to get into a scoring rhythm, shooting 25 percent from the field and a mere 17 percent from behind the arc (4-23).

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team dropped a 53-35 decision on the road against Southern New Hampshire State University. Senior Kaitlin Page hit a runner at the buzzer giving the Lady Spartans a 19-17 lead at the half. Freshmen Sally O'Donnell lead all Lady Spartans with eight points while senior Raven Brinkley added six.

Lady Spartans Season Outlook
The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team has many new faces among them this year including Head Coach Kim Lusk. Lusk joined the Spartans in May following the retirement of long time coach Michael McManus. Lusk comes to STAC after spending six years at New Jersey Institute of Technology where she became the winningest coach in the programs history.

Kim Lusk Named Assistant Director of Athletics/ Head Women's Basketball Coach
Sparkill, N.Y. - St. Thomas Aquinas Athletic Director Gerald Oswald has announced the hiring of Kim Lusk as Assistant Director of Athletics/ Head Women's Basketball Coach. As Assistant Director of Athletics, one of Lusk's top responsibilities will be as Sports Information Director. She will be responsible for updating and maintaining the athletics web site and also act as the main liaison between the athletic department and the media.
