Lady Spartans Fall Short at Queens, 56-44

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team ended their season with a 56-44 loss to the East Coast Conference Regular Season Champs, Queens College.  STAC was led by Colleen Vogel and Briana Sloper who scored twelve and eleven points respectively.  Sloper added a team high nine rebounds.  "This game was a major improvement from our previous two meeting with Queens, commented Head Coach Kim Lusk, we played hard and I'm excited about the future of this program."  

Vogel connected on 4-10 from behind the arc and finished the season with a team high fifty-one three pointers made.  Vogel was second in scoring for STAC averaging 14.1 points per game and collected a team high thirty-seven steals.  Freshman Sylvia Davis added nine points, three assists and one steal.  Davis averaged three assists per game and finished the season third in scoring with 7.1 points per game.  Fellow rookies Natalie Catavero and Kim Vareles gave a strong defensive efforts with three steals each.  Vareles added five rebounds and forced many jump ball situations.  Junior Kaitlin Page added three assists and four rebounds.  Page finished the season with a team high ninety-one assists. 

Prior to the game Queens was awarded the Regular Season Champion plaque.  Graduate student Jennifer DiChiara and Amanda Barlett of Queens also received their All Conference Awards.  DiChiara, the ECC Player Of The Year had fifteen points and fifteen rebounds while Barlett, a first team All Conference selection added fourteen points and three assists.

Briana Sloper, was also among the award recipients, as she received the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Year and Second Team All Conference plaques.  Sloper finished the season with a total of 416 points and 202 rebounds.  She led the Lady Spartans with 14.9 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per game. 

The Lady Spartans finished the season with a record of 7-21 and the young team will be returning nine players next season.
