Lady Spartans Suffer Defeat at Buzzer
The Lady Spartans, unable to hold off a 3-point attempt as time expired, fell to the University of the Sciences at Philadelphia 53-50. Freshman Briana Sloper led STAC with thirteen points while juniors Kaitlin Page and Colleen Vogel chipped in with nine points apiece.
STAC held a lead by as many as nine points through the majority of the second half. With 6:38 remaining in the contest, USP went on 16-4 run which ended with 24-foot bank shot by Colleeen Christian at the buzzer.
Although the Lady Spartans out shot the Devils 40.9% to 32.1% from the floor and 30.8%-15.4% from behind the arc, it was the discrepency in free throw percentage that lead to the final outcome. USP capitalized on 15-22 while STAC finished 10-24 from the charity stripe. STAC held the advantage on the glass, 42-35 as Page collected a team high eight rebounds.
The Lady Spartans will be back in action on Sunday, December 28th as they take on Felician College in Rutherford, NJ. Game time is slated for 1:00 PM.
