East Coast Conference Hosts Experience in Community and Character Leadership Workshop

Armed with pillows, blankets, institution apparel and open minds, forty East Coast Conference student-athletes gathered at the conference office located on the NYIT Central Islip campus for the first-ever Experience in Community and Character leadership workshop. Drew Gangemi and Chelsea Klinger, both of the Cross Country and Track & Field teams, represented St. Thomas Aquinas College at the conference.

Spartans Have Success at Penn Invational

The St. Thomas Aquinas track and field team competed in Philadelphia at the Penn Invitational this past weekend. Chris Muniz, (Suffern, NY), took 3rd place in both the 200 and 400 events. His 400 time of 48.20 took third in a big field of Division I competitors and also qualified him for IC4A Championships in Princeton. He also competed in the 200 where he ran 21.98 which is another new school record for Muniz and the first time for him in breaking the 22.00 barrier. Other notable performances came from Einar Brissing and Jeannette Gibson. Brissing ran the 1500 meters in a time of 4:10.44 which is one of his better times of the year. Gibson took 5th in the discus with a throw of 121-08.

Spartans Bring Home Personal Bests from Maryland

Grey skies with a steady drizzle set the tone for Saturday’s Towson University Track & Field Invitational held at Johnny Unitas Stadium, however, the Spartans were able to shine some positive light on the otherwise gloomy day. Junior thrower Jeanette Gibson placed 10th overall in the shot put with a throw of 10.50 meters (34-05.50 feet).

Muniz Sets Personal Record at IC4A Championships

Chris Muniz (Suffern, NY), finished 11th in the IC4A Championships on March 7th in Boston. His time of 48.29 FAT made him the top finishing Division II runner in this race and placed him behind only ten other runners on the East Coast all of whom are in Division I programs.
