Purple Knights Too Strong for Lady Spartans
The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team was defeated by the Purple Knights of Bridgeport, 69-55. Briana Sloper scored eighteen points for STAC while pulling down eleven boards. Theresa Dowling, Kaitlin Page and Colleen Vogel each contributed eight points.
The Lady Spartans got off to a quick start as Theresa Dowling hit a three in the opening minutes of play. STAC was 5-11 from behind the arc in the first half with Dowling and Page each knocking down two. Sloper had eight points to lead the way in the first period as the Lady Spartans went into the locker room down three.
STAC was 7-7 from the free throw line, however, Bridgeport got to the line more often finishing 14-17. A hard fought second half was played by both teams, but did not fall in favor of STAC as they shot thirty-three percent to Bridgeport's forty-six percent. The Purple Knights finished the game shooting fifty percent from the field (26-52) behind Shannon Malone's twenty-two points. All five starters finished in double figures. The Purple Knights edged STAC on the boards 33-31.
The Lady Spartans will travel to NYIT on Wednesday before hosting Molloy College in their final home game on Saturday. Saturday's home game will honor the final game at St. Thomas Aquinas College for senior Claire Wilson. Seniors Jessica Buono and Raven Brinkley will be honored as well.
