Lady Spartans Fall to Georgian Court in Overtime

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team dropped an 81-71 decision to the Lions of Georgian Court this afternoon.  Colleen Vogel led STAC with twenty-seven points and four assists.  Vogel connected on the second of two free throws with 1:40 to play to put the Lady Spartans up four (63-59).  STAC was unable to score in the closing minutes as the Lions went on a 4-0 run to end regulation tied at 63.

The Lions went on a 7-0 run in the opening two minutes of overtime to give them the momentum they needed to remain in control of the game.  Patti Foley scored twenty-nine points and grabbed nine rebounds for Georgian Court. 

The Spartans received ten points from junior Whitney Dugan.  STAC who trailed for most of the game, took their first lead with 9:33 remaining on a basket by freshman Kim Vareles.  Vareles added four points and four steals for the Lady Spartans.  STAC held the lead for the remainder of the game until Christina White scored the game tying basket with :16 seconds to go.  STAC had two last shot attempts to win the game but came up short.

The Lady Spartans are off until January 3rd when they travel to Queens College for a 5:00 tip off.
