Lady Spartans Come Up Short Against CW Post, 63-59
The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team lost a hard fought game to visiting CW Post, 63-59. Natalie Catavero had a big game for STAC scoring a career high ten points. Briana Sloper scored a game high sixteen points while pulling down six rebounds. Theresa Dowling added ten points while Kimberly Vareles tied her career high ten rebounds. Kaitlin Page had a game high five assists for STAC.
The Lady Spartans were down ten at the half but fought hard in the second half to cut into the Pioneers lead. Catavero hit two free throws with 2:54 remaining to give STAC their first lead of the half, 53-52. However, Noelle Pawlicki hit back to back three pointers to put CW Post ahead by five. Sylvia Davis scored a layup with :37 seconds remaining bringing the Lady Spartans within one but it was not enough as CW Post converted on 3-4 from the line. STAC had two opportunities to tie the game in the final seconds of play but came up short on both attempts.
CW Post was lead by Felicia Joyner's fourteen points. Whitney Murrer added twelve points and nine rebounds. The Lady Spartans held a slight edge on the boards, 39-38. STAC shot a mere twenty five percent from the field in the first half which proved to be a differnce maker in the game.
STAC will be back in action on Saturday as they face Queens College. Tip off is 1:00 PM.
