Lady Spartans Fall Short Against Adelphi
The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's basketball team lost to visiting Adelphi University, 68-61 in tonight's East Coast Conference matchup. The Spartans were tied at 57 with 5:34 remaining in the game before surrendering to a 12-4 run by the Panthers. Junior Colleen Vogel scored twenty-four points and had four steals while Briana Sloper added fifteen points and ten rebounds.
STAC was down 38-28 with 2:45 to go in the half before outscoring Adelphi 6-0 to bring them within four. Vogel was 3-3 from behind the arc in the first half as she led all scorers with fifteen. Freshman Sylvia Davis led the Lady Spartans with a career high six assists.
The second half saw four lead changes and seven ties in a hard fought game by both squads. Adelphi held on down the stretch behind Ashley Caiafa's twenty-three points to earn the win. Serita Lee and Lisa Manetta scored fourteen and eleven points respectively for Adelphi. Claire Wilson and Whitney Dugan each grabbed 5 rebounds as STAC outrebounded Adelphi 44-40.
The Lady Spartans will have a quick turn around as they travel to Mercy College on Wednesday for a 5:00 PM game.
