Lady Spartans Honor Three Seniors in Final Game
The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team finished their season yesterday dropping two games to Dominican College, 4-0 and 9-2. The Lady Spartans honored their three seniors; Danielle Hart, Stephanie Sfraga and Kelly Sullivan after the game.

Lady Spartans Fall to Dowling
The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team dropped two games to Dowling College on Saturday afternoon, 6-5 and 10-2. In the opening game of the day STAC made a late run in the top of the seventh taking the lead before Dowling scored two in the bottom to earn the win.

Lady Spartans Split with Queens
The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team beat Queens College 4-3 in the second game of today's double header. Heather Clausen hit a two run homerun in the third inning to tie the game 3-3. Angela Squillini hit a RBI single in the sixth giving STAC a 4-3 lead as she scored Joy Feriello who led off with a single. Clausen was 3-for-3 for the game. Pitcher Amanda Forsythe picked up the win allowing only four hits and striking out two. Alyssa Cataldo added a RBI single in the opening inning of the game.

Sfraga Pitches Shutout
The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team split with Adelphi University in Saturday afternoon's double header. Senior pitcher Stehpanie Sfraga pitched a seven inning shutout in game one striking out eight batters. Michelle Sasso had a RBI single in the second inning to score Joy Ferriello. Angela Squillini hit a RBI double in the sixth to score Jess Rickle and secure the 2-0 win.

Spartans Drop Doubleheader at Bloomfield
The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team dropped both of their games 2-1 and 6-2 to Bloomfield College. In the first game freshman Heather Clausen hit a RBI single to score Michelle Sasso. In game two Danielle Hart hit a two run home run in the seventh but it was not enough to cut into Bloomfield's six run lead.

Lady Spartans Struggle at NYIT
The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team lost to NYIT 6-2 and 9-4 in today's double header. Joy Ferriello had an RBI in the first game and went 2-for-3 in game two. In the second game of the day Amanda Forsythe hit a two run home run in the 2nd inning to give the Lady Spartans an early 2-1 lead. Later that game, Angela Squillini hit a RBI single to bring STAC within one, 5-4 in the top of the sixth. However it was not enough as NYIT came back with a four run inning in the bottom of the sixth to put away the game.

Lady Spartans Dropped Two to Concordia
The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team lost to visiting Concordia College, 2-1 and 6-1. Junior Angela Squillini was 3-for-3 in the first game including a solo homerun putting the Lady Spartans ahead 1-0. Squillini had three of STAC's four hits in the low scoring game including a double in the seventh. In the second game of the day, Jess Rickel added a solo homer of her own but it was not enough to recover from the Clippers four run first inning.

Lady Spartans Split Road Games at Chestnut Hill
The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team split a two game series with Chestnut Hill College winning the first game 13-6 before a tough 9-8 loss in game two. The Lady Spartans broke open a 6-6 tie with a seven run inning in the seventh. Sharis Ruiz had an inside the park homerun to score three of the seven runs before Joy Ferriello followed with a two run homer of her own. Ruiz finished 2-for-3 for the game including four RBI while Ferriello was 3-for-5 with three RBI.

Lady Spartans Fall to Mavericks
The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team dropped two games to visiting Mercy College this afternoon. The Lady Spartans fell 8-0 in the first game and then lost a 15-2 decision in game two. Alyssa Cataldo went 3-5 over the two games including an RBI single in game two scoring teammate Sharis Ruiz and putting STAC on the board. Joy Ferriello homered in the fourth but it was not enough as Mercy scored at least one run in every inning.

Pioneers Too Strong for Lady Spartans
The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team dropped both games of Sunday's doubleheader against CW Post, 15-6 and 13-0. Joy Ferriello had a grand slam in the fifth inning plating four of the Lady Spartans six runs. In the fourth inning, Angelina Squillini singled up the middle scoring two for STAC and putting them on the board, 7-2.

Molloy Take Two from STAC
The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team dropped two games to Molloy College this afternoon. The Spartans opened with a 5-2 loss before dropping the second game 9-2. Sophomore Joy Ferriello had four hits and two RBI's between the two games. Senior Jess Rickle added two hits and scored a run in each game.

Bridgeport Tops Lady Spartans
The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team dropped both games of their double header against the University of Bridgeport. STAC went scoreless in the first game losing 12-0 before falling 6-2 in the second game. Rookie Amanda Forsythe's home run in the fourth inning knocked in third baseman Alyssa Cataldo recording the Lady Spartans two runs.

Lady Spartans Fall to Lions
The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team dropped two games to the visiting Lions of Georgian Court University. STAC dropped a low scoring 1-0 loss in the first game of Sunday's double header before falling 8-4 in game two. STAC used a four run fifth inning to close the gap to 6-4 behind Sharis Ruiz's single that scored two. Jess Rickle and Michelle Sasso scored on an error and an unearned run. Georgian Court sealed the win by adding two more runs in the seventh holding off STAC.

Lady Spartans Beat Nyack, 4-3
The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team picked up their first win of the season 4-3 against Nyack College. Rookie pitcher Amanda Forsythe earned her first collegiate victory on the mound for the Lady Spartans. Earlier in the morning STAC lost a 5-0 game to Franklin Pierce.

Franklin Pierce Tops Lady Spartans, 8-2
The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team lost to Franklin Pierce College, 8-2 in their first game on Monday. Franklin Pierce scored eight runs off twelve hits as the Lady Spartans Amanda Forsythe recorded her first loss of the season. Joy Ferriello hit a home run in the sixth inning for STAC.

Molly Sweeps Lady Spartans
The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team lost to Molloy College in both games on Sunday. The Lady Spartans fell 11-4 in the opening game which also marked their first game of the season and later was shut out by the Lions 13-0. Both games were played in Clermont, FL where the Lady Spartans will play a total of nine games during the week.

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team dropped a 7-2 loss to Merrimack College on Sunday as they opened their season with three games in one day. The Lady Spartans met up with the Warriors again on Monday falling 0-6. More details to follow.

Lady Spartans Picked Eighth in ECC Preseason Softball Poll
The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team was selected eighth in the East Coast Conference Preseason Poll. The poll was voted on by the coaches of each team. STAC finished the 2008 season with a record of (22-24, 9-11). C.W. Post secured the top spot followed by Adelphi who also received first place votes. The Lady Spartans will begin their season on March 15th against Merrimack in Clermont, FL.

STAC Senior selected to the Division II ECAC All-Star Team
Senior Jess Gogatz was named to the 2008 Division II ECAC All-Stars 1st Team. Gogatz, a utility player out of Brewster, NY graduated this past May with a 3.18 GPA in Education. She was a four year starter for the Lady Spartans and was the kind of player every coach wants on their team, commented head coach Barbara Vano.
