Molly Sweeps Lady Spartans

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team lost to Molloy College in both games on Sunday.  The Lady Spartans fell 11-4 in the opening game which also marked their first game of the season and later was shut out by the Lions 13-0.  Both games were played in Clermont, FL where the Lady Spartans will play a total of nine games during the week.

Game 1 Recap:

STAC got on the board first in the top of the first inning when freshman infielder Michelle Sasso started off her career with a double. Two batters later, sophomore Jess Rickel  gave the Spartans a 1-0 lead as her double drove in Sasso with the first run of the game.  Molloy took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth but the Lady Spartans came back in the top of the fifth scoring three runs of their own putting them ahead 4-3.  Molloy took control of the game in the bottom of the fifth regaining the lead the would not religuish.  The Lion scored six more runs in the sixth to earn the victory.  Senior pitcher Stephanie Sfraga struck out two batters while giving up three runs in four innings while freshman Amanda Forsythe gave up eight runs in two innings.  Lauren Urbount earned the win for Molloy giving up four runs and striking out three in seven innings.

Game 2 Recap:

Molloy began game two on fire scoring twelve runs in the first two innings. The Lions put up a six-run first and second inning.  STAC pitcher Alexsandra Morales struggled behind the plate picking up her first loss of the season.  Jess Rickle, Kelsey George and Heather Clausen were 1-2 at bat for the Lady Spartans.
