Lady Spartans Beat Nyack, 4-3
The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team picked up their first win of the season 4-3 against Nyack College. Rookie pitcher Amanda Forsythe earned her first collegiate victory on the mound for the Lady Spartans. Earlier in the morning STAC lost a 5-0 game to Franklin Pierce.
Game 1 Recap:
The Lady Spartans struggled at the plate going scoreless against Franklin Pierce in Wednesday mornings game. Senior Jess Rickle along with rookie Amanda Forsythe were 2-3 but were unable to score. STAC's defense was strong up until the fifth inning holding the Ravens to one run. However, Franklin Pierce was able to add two runs in the sixth and seventh to secure the victory.
Game 2 Recap:
In the second game of the day the Lady Spartans were down 2-1 going into the seventh inning. STAC's Heather Clausen, who was 2-2 at bat, led off the inning with a walk. Amanda Forsythe followed with a single and Alyssa Cataldo hit a double scoring Clausen to tie the game 2-2. With one out, Michelle Sasso hit a sacrifice fly to score the go ahead run; Sharis Ruiz who was running for Forsythe. Danielle Hart hit a single to solidify the win. Cataldo was 2-3 with an RBI. Clausen, Hart and Sasso each had an RBI for the game. Amanda Forsythe earned the win on the mound.
