Lady Spartans Split Road Games at Chestnut Hill
The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team split a two game series with Chestnut Hill College winning the first game 13-6 before a tough 9-8 loss in game two. The Lady Spartans broke open a 6-6 tie with a seven run inning in the seventh. Sharis Ruiz had an inside the park homerun to score three of the seven runs before Joy Ferriello followed with a two run homer of her own. Ruiz finished 2-for-3 for the game including four RBI while Ferriello was 3-for-5 with three RBI.
Heather Clausen was 2-for-3 with three RBI while Jess Rickle was 2-for-4 and batted in two runners. The Lady Spartans had seventeen hits for the game. Amanda Forsythe earned the win for STAC striking out six batters over six innings.
In the second game of the day, Alyssa Cataldo put the Lady Spartans on the board with an RBI single to score Clausen. Cataldo was 2-for-4 for the day with an RBI. The Lady Spartans scored three runs in the opening inning, but Chestnut Hill answered with a six run first inning of their own. STAC closed back in on the Griffins off a Ruiz RBI single to pull them within one, 5-6, in the top of the 3rd. Each team went on to score three runs during their next two innings at bat leaving the Lady Spartans still down one, 8-9. STAC had their chances leaving seven runners stranded in the final three innings.
STAC will return to action tomorrow as they host Concordia College for a double header.
