Striders Split With Nyack in Season Openers
The Spartan Striders of Saint Thomas Aquinas College opened their Fall campaign by winning the men's race at the Tallman 5K Classic. Andrew Gengemi lead the team by placing first overall in a record breaking time of 16:57 over the tree-lined course at Tallman State Park in Sparkill, New York. Andrew was followed by freshman Christian Mendez (17:45) Elmer Eckert (17:53) Rafael Ortiz (18:05). After the top four finished,
Vinny Modafferi garnered sixth place in 18:35. Neophyte Chris Muniz placed 12th in 20:48 for his first race as a xc runner. Dan Nilsen rounded out the top seven by finishing in 21:50, good enough for 15 place in his first race as a college freshman. The Spartans beat second place finisher, Nyack College handily by the score of 16 to 39.
The Lady Spartans started their Fall Season by losing to Nyack
College by the score of 27 to 40 at the Tallman 5K Classic. Amanda
Szorentini lead the Spartan Striders by placing 5th
overall in the time of 24:39. Amanda was closely followed by Ashley
Tuscano, who finished in 6th with a time of 24:41.
Newbie Jen Bruen ran an awesome race by running 25:30 and placing
8th overall. Jen was followed home by freshman Sade
Mosher & senior Samara Vega who placed 10th and
11th respectively. Neophyte Kim DeLorenzo came home in
17th place to round out the Lady Spartans.
