Lady Spartans Drop 1st Game to SNHU

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's basketball team dropped a 53-35 decision on the road against Southern New Hampshire State University.  Senior Kaitlin Page hit a runner at the buzzer giving the Lady Spartans a 19-17 lead at the half.  Freshmen Sally O'Donnell lead all Lady Spartans with eight points while senior Raven Brinkley added six.

The Lady Spartans forced twelve turnovers in the first half which helped keep them in the game despite poor offensive performances by both teams.  The Penman went on a 8-2 run in the first six minutes of the second half to put them up six.  The Lady Spartans answered with back to back three point plays from freshman Briana Sloper and senior Claire Wilson; tying the game at 27-27 with 12:50 remaining in the game.

The Penman nearly doubled their score in the final ten minutes of playing getting to the free throw line eleven times in which they shot 16-22.  The Lady Spartans converted on a jumper by junior Colleen Vogel with just under seven minute to play which put them within nine but the Spartans could not close the gap.

Junior Juanita Chappel lead the Spartans with seven rebounds.  Southern New Hampshire's Alyssa Whitney lead all scorers with twelve points for the night.

The Lady Spartans will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to nearby Nyack College for a 6pm tip-off.  The Lady Spartans will be followed by the St. Thomas Aquinas men's basketball team who are slated for an 8pm start against Nyack.
