Lady Spartans Struggle Against CW Post
The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's basketball team dropped a 64-54 decision to CW Post on Saturday. The Lady Spartans shot 43 percent from the field but struggled with turnovers(29) allowing CW Post nineteen extra possessions. Colleen Vogel scored twenty points while grabbing six rebounds for STAC. Theresa Dowling and Briana Sloper scored fifteen and eleven points respectively.
The Lady Spartans fell behind early as CW Post opened the game on a 10-2 run. STAC fought back closing in on the Pioneers with a jumper by Vogel to bring them within four (15-11) at the eight minute mark. Dowling's three with 4:24 remaining in the half cut Post's lead to two, however the home team closed out the half with a 5-2 run giving them an eight point advantage at the half, 30-22.
CW Post shot 50 percent from behind the arc (10-20) led by Emily Hall (4-6) who scored a team high seventeen along with forward Whitney Murrer. Murrer went 11-11 from the free throw line after pulling down thirteen rebounds.
Vogel hit a three to open up the second half bringing the Lady Spartans within five, but STAC would not get any closer. CW Post outrebounded STAC 38-31 pulling down 16 offensive boards.
The Lady Spartans will be off this week due to final exams. They will travel to Goldey Beacon College in Delaware on Saturday for a 2:00 game.
