2008 ECC Spring Scholar Athletes
Four STAC Student Athletes have been named to the 2008 East Coast Conference Spring Scholar Athlete Honor Roll. The honorees were selected by the conference coaches of each respective sport.
Raven Brinkley from Rego Park, NY started all 28 games for the Lady Spartan's Basketball Team. The junior forward averaged 32 minutes a game and was third in scoring averaging 9.4 ppg. She led the Spartans in rebounding compiling 184 rebounds for an average of 6.6 per game. Brinkley holds the single season field goal percentage record with an average of 48.2 percent in 2006-07*. In her three seasons she has compiled a total of 496 rebounds placing her third on the All-Time Career List*. Brinkley is a psychology major and a Dean's List student.
John Mazzello from New Hyde Park, NY started all 52 games for the Spartans. The senior shortstop was an ABCA/Rawlings All-NE Region selection as well as an ECC 1st team all-conference selection and the ECC player of the week on April 14th. He led the Spartans with 73 hits and a batting average of .365. Mazello was a key player in the Spartan's record breaking season in which they finished as regular season co-champs with 28 wins. Mazzello posed a dual threat of power and speed to opposing pitchers, stealing 23 bases and scoring 41 runs while belting 19 doubles, 3 triples, 4 home runs, and driving in 37 runs. In 200 at-bats, he struck out only 12 times, which ranked him 42nd in the nation. Mazzello, a Dean's List student graduated this past May with a History/ Education degree.
Shannon Donohue from Blauvelt, NY started in 45 games for the Lady Spartan softball team. Donohue played first base as well as pitched for the Spartans. She compiled 29 runs including 7 home runs this season. Donohue was 4th on the team with 39 hits and batted in 20 runners. In 18 appearances on the mound she struck out 66 batters in 100.2 innings. Donohue finished 5th on STAC's single season list* with a batting average of .262 and a slugging percentage of .427. Donohue graduated this past May with a Social Science degree.
Jennifer Bruen from Tappan, NY started all 16 games for the Lady Spartan Lacrosse Team. The Junior midfielder finished third on the team with 33 goals and 8 assists, compiling 41 points. Bruen is third in career points with 109, in the programs short history. Bruen also runs cross country for the Spartans. Bruen is a psychology major and is on the Dean's List.
