STAC Women’s Basketball Take A Midnight Run
The STAC women’s basketball team participated in a Midnight Run on Thursday night January 18. In conjunction with Sr. Madeline Murphy, the STAC Director of Campus Ministry and the Spartan Volunteers, the Lady Spartans along with Head Coach Mike McManus, Steve Wilson, from ARAMARK and Sr. Madeline spent Thursday night and Friday morning distributing food, clothes and blankets to the homeless in New York City. The group made 6 different stops during their trip to NYC.
The Spartans Volunteers, a service organization on the Sparkill campus, makes a Midnight Run monthly. The group usually skips January due the fact the student body is not on campus for most of the month. Jessica Buono, a member of the women’s team as well as a member of the Spartans Volunteers, pointed out that there are students on campus, her basketball team. The ides was a hit with Sr. Madeline and the team made their 1st Midnight Run.
“It was a great experience, said senior Erin Kilduff, I wish we had participated in my previous winter breaks.” Many of the players felt it was a great way for the team to bond. “It was fun to do this as a team. Sometimes we need to do some non- basketball activities together, especially in January,” added junior Erika Ostrove.
The Midnight Run is a consortium of more than 150 churches, synagogues and schools in the Metropolitan New York area distributing clothes, blankets and food to the homeless.
The
women’s basketball also participates in the American Cancer
Society “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” 5K Walk
every October in Central Park in NYC.
