The Spartan Striders Indoor Track Team Travels To Yale To Open The Indoor Season
Indoor Track Opens Season At Yale Invitational
The Spartan Striders Indoor Track Team traveled up to Connecticut to compete in The Yale Season Opener against 10 other teams. A number of STAC athletes performed admirably in their first indoor race. One school record was set by the 4 x 400 relay. The team of Keith Francis, John Cirolia, Mike Valentine and Chris Muniz ran 3:29.45. Muniz's final leg was a sight to behold as he ran down the competition, coming from behind to destroy the field, which included Yale, Trinity, and New Haven. Chris also ran the 400 and 200 open. He finished 6th overall in the 400 and in the 200 he finished first in his heat, and he qualified for the CTC Championship. Jeanette Gibson started off her indoor season by placing 4th overall in the Shot Put, just an inch out of third. Jeanette qualified for the CTC Championship in the Shot Put. Lisa Urnaitis just missed setting a personal record in the 400 open by ½ a second. Elmer Eckert qualified for the CTC championship by running the 5K in 15:57. Vinny Modaferri ran a distance triple (400, 1000, 4 x 800 relay) Vinny won his heat in the 1000 by starting off slow and finishing with an awesome kick that stunned his competitors. Vinny also qualified for the CTC Championship in the 1000. Andrew Gangemi set a personal record in the mile. The following is the competed results of all the striders who participated:
