The St. Thomas Aquinas women's softball team lost to St. Anselm in today's double header at home. The Lady Spartans could not hold off the Hawks in the first game falling 5-3 and then lost 11-2, in 5 innings in game two. Katie Meyers was 4-for-5 for the day, including a 3 run homerun in game one.
Meyers homer came in the bottom of the first to give STAC a 3-0 lead, however the Lady Spartans would not score another run. St. A's chipped away at the STAC lead, scoring one run in the 2nd inning and tying the game in the 4th. The Hawks took a 4-3 lead in the 5th and scored the final run of the game in the 6th. Maura Power got the loss for STAC, giving up 8 hits and striking out 7.
In game two, St. A's got out to a strong start scoring two runs in the first inning however, the Lady Spartans were able to tie things up in the bottom of the 2nd. Heather Clausen led off with a single, followed by a double from Meyers. A Megan Sweezy single scored both runners and the game was knotted at 2-2. The Hawks added a run in the 3rd to regain the lead and used a 6 run 4th inning to keep the Lady Spartans out of reach. Sweezy had the loss on the mound for STAC.
The Lady Spartans will return to action on Thursday when they host Nyack College for a double header starting at 3:00 pm.
