Spartans Fall to Knights in Double Header

The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team lost at Queens, 4-1 and 3-2.  Angela Squillini was 2-for-6 with 2 runs and an RBI for the day.  Alyssa Cataldo was 1-for-2 with an RBI in game two. 

In the first game of the day Squillini singled up the middle then advanced to second on an error.  With two outs, Amanda Forsythe singled to score Squillini making it 1-1 in the top of the fourth.  Queens put together a 3-run fifth inning and went on to win the game.  Maura Power picked up the loss for STAC giving up 7 hits, 4 runs and striking out 2 in 6 innings.

The second game of the day the Lady Spartans jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first.  Freshman Samantha Welsh led off with a single and was later scored by another Squillini single.  In the next at bat Alyssa Cataldo doubled to score Squillini.  Queens added runs in the second and fifth to eventually tie the game, 1-1.  In the bottom of the eighth, Queens had runners on second and third with one out and bunted in the winning run.  Samantha Welsh went the distance giving up 4 hits, 3 runs and striking out 6 for the Lady Spartans. 

The Lady Spartans will host Molloy on Friday at 2:30 and Chestnut Hill on Sunday at 12:00 noon.
