Spartans Power Past Griffins on Pink Day
The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team beat Chestnut Hill, 6-2 and 6-1 in today's double header. Angela Squillini went 2-for-6 with a run and 4 RBI's. Freshmen Maura Power and Samantha Welsh picked up their second career wins for the Lady Spartans.
In game two, Welsh had a career high 12 strike outs giving up one hit and one run. The rookie also had a good day at the plate, going 2-for-2 including an RBI-single in the third. Junior Alyssa Cataldo went 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI in the second game and went 4-for-5 overall for the day.
Earlier in the day, the Lady Spartans put together two runs in the third and fourth to break open a 1-1 tie. Cataldo added an RBI single in the fifth to give STAC a 6-1 advantage. The Griffins added a run in the sixth but it was too little too late as the Lady Spartans picked up the win.
Today's game represented the Lady Spartans pink zone, breast cancer awareness day. STAC will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Dowling for an ECC doubleheader beginning at 3:00 PM.
