STAC Women Split Doubleheader With The University Of Bridgeport
The Lady Spartans took a 4-run lead in game 1 but could not hold on as Bridgeport scored 5 runs in the 5th inning and 2 in the 7th inning to defeat STAC, 7 - 4. Junior Stephanie Sfraga was the losing pitcher. STAC took the lead in the 1st inning behind a solo home run from Jess Gogatz and a 3-run homer from Amanda Brown. But the women could not hold on as they dropped their 10th game of the season.
In the game 2, the Lady Spartans trailed 7 - 3 going into the bottom of the 5th inning before they erupted for 3 runs to bring the score close at 7 - 6. Then in the 6th inning senior Shannon Donohue hit a 2-run game winning home run to centerfield scoring Jess Gogatz, who had walked. Gogatz retired Bridgeport 1 - 2 - 3 in the 7th to secure the win.
The split brought the SATC record to 6 - 10 overall and 1 - 3 in the ECC.
