Spartans Earn 2-1 Non-League Win

RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Two goals in 17 seconds by Saint Thomas Aquinas College late in the first half were enough for a 2-1 non-conference men's soccer victory over host Felician College on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Park.

Saint Thomas Aquinas (3-4) broke a scoreless tie when Adam Paretti (Haverstraw, NY/North Rockland) blasted a free kick inches under the crossbar 38 minutes, 13 seconds, into the match. Not long after the re-start, Steven Ocampo (Englewood, NJ/Dwight Morrow) lofted a pass over a defender to teammate Jon-Michael Nabais (Wappinger Falls, NY/Ketcham), whose low shot crossed the goal line at 38:30.

Felician (0-4-1) received a lift 10 seconds before halftime when Greg Patullo (South Amboy, NJ/Bishop Ahr) scored his first career goal from 25 yards out. But the Golden Falcons could put only one shot on goal in the second half, with STAC relief goalkeeper Michael Chappas (Wappinger Falls, NY/Ketcham) making a diving on an Armin Tandir (Bosnia/Hackettstown [NJ]) header with about 15 minutes to play to keep his team in the lead.
