Setters Top Spartans, 63-58
The St. Thomas Aquinas men's basketball team fell to Pace University, 63-58. Justin Brown had 15 points and 7 rebounds for STAC. Jamie Blanchard and Irin Stark each added 8 points while Dane Dixon grabbed 8 rebounds for the Spartans.
The Setters opened the game on a 14-6 run before STAC rattled off 7 unanswered points to close within one, 14-13 at the 11:33 mark. Kadeem King scored a layup with 1:26 left in the half to give STAC a 30-29 lead at the half. King finished with 5 points and 2 steals.
The Spartans controlled most of the second half extending their lead to as many as 8 with 7:57 remaining in the game. Pace went on an 8-0 run tying the game at 55 apiece at 6:13. A layup from Brown pushed STAC's lead back to three, 58-55 with 3:55 left in the game. Keon Williams scored for Pace with 1:23 to give Pace back the lead at 59-58. With :31 seconds to play Williams scored two free throws to extend the lead to three, 61-58. Pace capitalized on two more free throws to finish the game off.
STAC held a 37-35 edge on the boards. The Spartans will be back in action when they travel to Nyack College on Monday for a 7:30 game.
