Greyhounds Top Spartans, 87-72
The St. Thomas Aquinas men's basketball team tipped off their season this afternoon in Worcester, Ma as they faced Northeast-10 opponent Assumption College. The Spartans were led by freshman Justin Brown who notched a game high 19 points and 8 rebounds in his collegiate debut. Sophomore guard Ra'Shad James added 16 points and 3 assists while Jason Halloway had 11 points off the bench for STAC.
Assumption led 46-27 at the break after shooting forty-three percent from the field compared to STAC's thrity-seven percent. Senior guard Courtland Bluford led the Greyhounds with 17 points shooting 8-11 from the field. Mike Baldarelli went 2-3 from behing the arc adding 14 points and 5 rebounds while Bobby Harris and Tobin Haase each scored twelve for Assumption.
Despite outscoring the Greyhounds 45-41 in the second half the Spartans could not cut into Assumptions lead falling, 87-72. Assumption also held a 38-33 advantage on the boards. The Spartans will play their home opener on Saturday as they host Nyack College at 3:00 PM.
