Spartans Outlast Queens, 63-62

Senior Ahmed Allen scored two free throws in the final seconds of play to lift the Spartans over Queens, 63-62, in Saturday afternoon's game.  STAC moves to 2-1 in conference play and 4-5 overall.  The Spartans were led by seniors Chris Williams and Akeem Comas who scored seventeen and fifteen points respectively.  Comas also pulled down a game high ten rebounds.

After an 11-0 run by the Knights, the Spartans were down 45-35 with 9:20 to play, making their 24-21 halftime lead a fading memory. However, strong play by Comas and Williams helped STAC battle back.  The Spartans took the lead, 52-51 with 3:27 on the clock after a 3-pointer by senior forward Jelani Winfield, who scored twelve points coming off the bench.  A key steal and lay-up by Williams put the Spartans ahead 61-57 with a minute to play. Queens was able to make a final run at STAC before Allen sealed the victory with his free throws.  Allen finished with seven points and five rebounds.  The Spartans shot seventy-eight percent (14-18) from the free throw line compared to Queens fifty-nine percent (16-27) which proved to be a deciding factor in the game.

The Spartans will be off until December 23rd when they travel to Felician College.  STAC's Saturday (12/20) game against Assumption College was cancelled.
