Spartans Fall to Merrimack in Lowell Tournament

The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's basketball team dropped their first game of the season 65-81 against Merrimack College in the opening round of the UMass-Lowell Tournament.  The Spartans were lead by senior Akeem Comas who scored fourteen points on 7-11 shooting from the floor.  Seniors Chris Williams and Pierre Gaspard also scored in double figures for the Spartans with thirteen and eleven points respectively.

The Spartans were down four going into the locker room on 16-29 shooting for the half including 5-6 from the free throw line.  Merrimack College used an 18-4 run to start the second half, breaking open the game and the Spartans were unable to close the gap.

Williams who was 2-4 from behind the arc tallied a team high five rebounds.  STAC will be back in action tomorrow as they face the host UMass-Lowell in the second round of the two game tournament.  Tip-off is slated for 8PM.
