STAC Downs Mercy 68-56
The St. Thomas Aquinas men's basketball team beat Mercy College 68-56 in last nights outing. The Spartans maintained a double digit lead for most of the second half. Akeem Comas had fifteen points and six rebounds while Vincent Johnson added fourteen points and five boards. After both squads exchanged baskets in the early minutes, the Spartans took over the game on a traditional three point play by Terrance Portis and never looked back. STAC was up by as many as twenty in the first half behind Johnson's ten points.
The Spartans played strong throughout the second half holding on to their lead as ten players were involved in the scoring action. Chad Williams scored nine points while hitting 6-6 from the free throw line. Chris Williams added seven points and four rebounds for the Spartans. STAC won the battle on the boards, 34-29.
Ed Wilson led the way for the Mavericks with thirteen points while Justin McMullen and Michael Marin each contributed ten points.
STAC will be back in action on Saturday as they host Concordia College at 3:00. Saturday's game will be the Take A Kid to the Game Day and all kids twelve and under will be admitted for free. There will be an autograph session after the game with all of the STAC players.
