Spartans Fall Short Against Bridgeport, 67-62

The St. Thomas Aquinas men's basketball team lost to the University of Bridgeport by a score of 67-62.  Senior Akeem Comas scored sixteen points while Chris Williams added fourteen.  Williams hit 3-7 from behind the arc including a deep three to bring the Spartans within three (63-60) with twenty seconds remaining in the game.  Jelani Winfield added eleven points off the bench for STAC.

The Spartans trailed by thirteen at the half but chipped and clawed at Bridgeport.  Winfield hit a three with eight minutes left in the game that sparked a 9-0 run by STAC.  Bridgeport's Teairez Stennis hit a jumper to break their scoring drought making the score 59-53 with 4:19 to go.  Stennis shot 7-14 from the floor and finished with fourteen as Steve Martin led the way for the Purple Knights with nineteen points and five rebounds.

Ahmed Allen sank one of two free throws with 2:03 left in the game to bring STAC within two, 59-57.  However, Bridgeport extended their lead back to six before Williams drained his three.  The Purple Knights connected on their final four free throws to keep the game out of reach. 

STAC will travel to NYIT on Wednesday before returning to STAC on Saturday for their final regular season home game.  The Spartans will honor their seniors before Saturday's home game.
