Spartans Fall to Bridgeport 75-63
The St. Thomas Aquinas men's basketball team dropped a 75-63 decision to the Purple Knights of Bridgeport. The Spartans were led by Jamie Blanchard's twenty points on 4-8 from the field and 12-12 from the free throw line. Chris Williams added twelve points and five assists for the Spartans.
A layup by Ra'Shad James at 7:44 brought STAC within three (22-19) in the first half. Ahmed Allen scored six in the half while Akeem Comas added five as STAC went into the locker room down nine (30-21).
David Boykins hit a three at 15:46 to put Bridgeport ahead 36-24. Boykins finished with seventeen including 3-6 from behind the arc. STAC cut the double digit lead on four occassions behind the solid free throw shooting of Blanchard. Blanchard also scored a layup to bring STAC within six (57-51) with 4:42 remaining in the game, but the Purple Knights answered with a 9-0 run to put them back ahead fifteen.
STAC won the battle on the boards 40-37 but shot 31.4 percent from the field compared to Bridgeport's 55.3 percent. Jelani Winfield pulled down eleven rebounds for STAC including seven on the offensive end.
STAC will be back in action on Saturday as the host NYIT for a 3:00 contest.
