Women Wear Pink T-Shirts To Show Support For Fight Against Breast Cancer
Sparkill, NY - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball Team will be joining over 900 other schools in the fight against breast cancer by participating in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's "Think Pink" initiative by donning pink t-shirts when they warm up prior to their February 13 game against the University of Bridgeport.
All proceeds from the February 13th men's and women's games against the University of Bridgeport will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in honor of Julie Moran, daughter of Bridgeport Athletic Director Jay Moran.
"I am so proud of our Spartan and Lady Spartan student-athletes for their continual service to the community. Their hard work, dedication and support of worthy causes including the Breast Cancer walk and Make-a-Wish Foundation is a model for all of us. Giving back through various community service efforts has enhanced our student-athletes overall collegial experience and extended it beyond the courts, fields and tracks and into our society," said Dr. Margaret Fitzpatrick, STAC College President.
The Lady Spartans have been very involved in the fight against breast cancer, For the past 13 years they have participated in the American Cancer Society's ‘Making Strides Against Breast Cancer' 5-mile walk in New York City's Central Park each October. The STAC women have raised over $20,000.00 during that time.
The entire STAC Athletic Program is very involved in the community along with raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer."
Teams from St. Thomas participate in: the Midnight Run where they bring food and clothes to the homeless, the CJ Foundation for SIDS WAWA Walk and on Friday, February 29th will be participating in the American Cancer Society's "Relay for Life" in STAC's Aquinas Hall at 6:00pm. They will be joined by other St. Thomas students as well as students from other local colleges.
