The St. Thomas Aquinas Men's golf team finished 2nd in the 14 team field at Long Island National Golf Club in Riverhead, NY. On day one the Spartans struggled in the windy conditions shooting a team score of 312. Leading the team during round one was freshman Joe Harney who carded a solid round of 75.
Senior Chris Fitzpatrick and junior Mike Gunderson posted scores of 78 and 79 respectively. Rounding out the team scoring were John Casey and Tommy Linehan who both carded rounds of 80.
On day two the Spartans improved with a team score of 304. Freshman Tommy Linehan bounced back from a tough first round and shot 75 (80-75---155) leaving him in a tie for 8th place. Mike Gunderson managed to improve on his first round as well firing a round of 76 (79-76---155) leaving him tied with Linehan in 8th place. John Casey managed to improve four shots after carding a 76 as well (80-76---156) leaving him tied for 12th place. Senior Chris Fitzpatrick rounded out the team scoring with a round of 77 (78-77---155) earning him a tied for 8th finish as well.
The Spartans finished the event with a 2-day score of 616 (312-304) leaving them 11 shots behind the winning team from Post University. The team is back in action on Monday, April 4 in Concordia College's 1-day event at Phillip J. Rotella G.C.
