Spartans Complete Round 1 of National Championship
The St. Thomas Aquinas golf team played in the opening round of the NCAA Division II National Championship being held at The Shoals Fighting Joe Course in North Alabama. Senior Chris Fitzpatrick shot a 2-over, 74 to lead the Spartans. Freshman Thomas Linehan shot a 4-over, 76 in his first round of an NCAA Championship.
Fitzpatrick birdied three holes for his round including two in his final nine to shoot even par on the front nine. Linehan opened his round with 5 bogey's and 1 birdie before carding nine consecutive pars to finish out his round. Junior John Casey was 8-over as he competed in her third National Championship for the Spartans. Freshman Joe Harney rounded out the Spartan scorers with an 83; including a birdie on the par 5, 7th hole.
The Spartans are currently in 16th place out of 20 teams and will tee off tomorrow between 12:00 and 12:40.
