Spartans finish 4th in deep field at annual Peter King Memorial
Amidst controversy and difficult conditions, the St. Thomas Aquinas Men's golf team battled back from a season high day 1 total to finish in fourth place at the Peter King Memorial Tournament hosted by Dowling College. Faced with cold temperatures and stiff wind, the Spartans struggled on Day 1 posting a season high round of 331. Senior Jordan Perretz fired a team low 73, but was disqualified after the round for taking an improper drop during play. Chris Fitzpatrick and Nick Zolotas both shot 80 and Sean Campbell posted an 83.
With day 2
came even colder conditions but the Spartans heated things up with
stellar play and great resilience. Freshman Nick Zolotas struggled
on his opening holes, but fought back to fire a 1 under par 70.
Chris Fitzpatrick rebounded from an uncharacteristic first round
and posted a 1 over par 72 while Sophomore Sean Campbell came back
strong with a 75. Senior captain Jordan Perretz battled through the
adversity to round out the team scoring with a solid 78.
The Spartans
are back in action this weekend in Syracuse at the LeMoyne College
Spring Invitational.
