Spartans Success leads to # 1 Ranking in Northeast Region

 

          The St. Thomas Aquinas Men’s Golf team recently finished their spring season with an impressive 2 tournament victories and retained their #1 ranking in the countries Northeast Region. The Spartans have been led all year by senior Patrick Cibirka. Cibirka’s leadership on and off the course have been invaluable to the team. In ten tournaments, Pat played to a steady scoring average of 75.79, giving him six top 10 finishes including second, third and fourth place finishes. Pat goes into the NCAA Regional Tournament ranked 5th in the Northeast Region.

          Another major contributor to the team’s success was the stand-out sophomore Patrick Schwarze. Schwarze proved to be one of the Spartan’s most consistent players with a scoring average of 76.25, good for 8th in the Northeast. Pat had three top 10 finishes this year and won his first tournament with an impressive two-day total score of 141 (73, 68).

          Junior Jordan Perretz finished the 2007 campaign with a 77.74 scoring average leaving him 16th in the Region. His tremendous practice habits paid off leaving Jordan ranked #1 in the region in short game and putting. Jordan’s ability to maneuver around the green and get up and down makes him a constant thread to make birdie.

          The Spartans look to continue the successful 2006-2007 at the NCAA Regional Tournament on May 7, 8 and 9 at Speidal Golf Club in West Virginia.
