Malzahn's 2-Run Homer Sparks 13-4 Victory Over Pace
The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team beat Pace University, 13-4 on Tuesday afternoon. Vin Malzahn went 3-for-3 with a 2-run homer and starting pitcher Joe Ferrara went five innings, yielding only one run with four strikeouts.
The scoring began with Frank Salerno's lead-off triple in the
3rd inning giving the Spartans an early 1-0 lead. In the fourth,
Mike Walraven led off with a single, followed by a Mike Apreda RBI
triple. Malzahn followed with a 2-run shot to dead center to stake
STAC to a 4-0 lead.
For the game Apreda went 2-for-3 and Walraven went 2-for-3. Catcher
George Wargo was 1-for-4 with 2 RBIs. Salerno and freshman
Nick D'Angleo each scored twice for the Spartans who are now 3-2
and head to Florida on Thursday.
