The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team beat Caldwell College, 6-3 on Saturday afternoon. George Wargo went 2-for-3 for the Spartans including an RBI single to tie the game. Andrew Hancsak hit a 2 RBI double in the 8th to help put STAC ahead for good.
The Spartans got out to a strong start scoring two runs in the first inning. Vincent Malzahn hit a sac fly RBI to score Andrew Ahn who led off the inning with a walk. Nick Barbalato also scored for STAC off a wild pitch. Caldwell responded and took a 1-run lead as Juan Majia hit a 3-run home run in the bottom of the 4th.
The Spartans rallied in the 8th as Wargo hit a single to score Matt Smith and tie the game at 3 up. Mike Apreda hit an RBI single, scoring Malzahn and giving the Spartans back the lead. Hancsak added insurance for STAC as his double to center field scored Wargo and Apreda.
Chris Schoepe recorded the win for STAC going 2 innings with no hits and 6 strike outs.
