Spartans Blast Queens, 8-1
The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team opened the game with a four-run first inning in route to an 8-1 win over Queens. David Schwartz and Matt Smith went went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI's each. Brian LaMarr went five innings allowing 3 hits and striking out 2.
Smith got the Spartans on the scoreboard with a RBI sac fly scoring Mike Apreda who lead off with a single. Schwartz added a 2-RBI single along with Dan McDermotts RBI single that scored Matt Marotta to put the Spartans ahead, 4-0. STAC added runs in the second and third inning to go ahead, 6-0 before. Jeff Gomez hit a home run in the fourth giving Queens its only run of the day.
The Spartans added runs in the seventh and eighth, securing the victory. McDermott along with Fernando Peralta went 1-for-3 with an RBI each. The Spartans will travel to Queens for Saturday's double header starting with a 12:00 game.
