Queens Tops STAC, 11-8
The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team lost to Queens College, 11-8. Junior Matt Marotta went 3-for-5 for STAC with two runs while fellow junior Andrew Ahn was 3-for-4 and had 4 RBI's.
The Spartans used a three run second inning to open a 3-0 lead over the Knights. Ahn hit a 2-RBI single scoring David Schwartz along with Marotta. Schwartz hit an RBI double scoring George Wargo who had reached on an error. Queens responded with a four-run top of the third highlighted by Matt Salvatore's bases loaded single that scored two.
Schwartz and Marotta each had singles in the bottom of the third and were sent home behind Ahn's 2-RBI double to put STAC back on top 5-4. The Knights tied the game up in the top of the fourth as Robert Bernardo scored on a pass ball. Queens opened the game up scoring five runs in the top of the fifth, including a Bernardo homerun, to go ahead 10-5. The Spartans were able to add two runs in the sixth and another in the seventh but it was not enough to close the gap. Schwartz was 2-for-5 for the Spartans and added 2-RBI.
STAC will play at Felician Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM.
