Spartans Split at Adelphi

The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team split yesterday's double header at Adelphi with a 7-0 win in the first game before falling 6-3 in the second game.  Fernando Peralta had 2 hits and 2 RBI for the Spartans in their win.

In the first game STAC used a four run fourth inning to put them on the scoreboard for the first time this season.  Joe Antenucci led off with a double to left field. Antenucci stole third and Andrew Ahn reached on an error in the next at bat, scoring Antenucci.  Ahn stole third and Matt Smith and George Wargo both walked.  With the bases loaded, Ryan Spicer singled to center field, picking up his first RBI, scoring Ahn.  With one out, Peralta walked in a run.  Dan McDermott grounded out to second but was able to advance the runners and picked up a RBI, putting STAC ahead 4-0.  STAC picked up an unearned run in the fifth off an error by Adelphi's catcher.  The seventh and eighth innings were highlighted by RBI doubles from Smith and Peralta.  On the plate, Mike Aviles went five innings to pick up the win.  Sean Marsiglia and Tom Enright each pitched two innings as STAC shutout the Panthers.

In the second game of the day, the Adelphi bats warmed up as they got on the board with two runs in the second.  The Panthers added a run in the third and two more in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead over STAC.  The Spartans rallied for a come back in the fifth as Matt Marotta double to score Peralta, who had walked.  Antenucci walked and Ahn hit a 2-RBI single to right field scoring two more runs for STAC but it was not enough.  The Panthers scored another run in the sixth to earn the 6-3 win.  The Spartan's Mark Forchesato picked up the loss going three innings and giving up three runs.  Robert Frank finished the day off for STAC also going three innings and giving up three runs while striking out five. 

The Spartans will face Nyack at 3:30 on Monday at the Diamond Nation.
