Spartans Fall to Cougars

The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team dropped two games to Caldwell College on Sunday afternoon.  The Spartans dropped a close game 4-3 before suffering an 11-0 shutout by the Cougars.

Game 1 Recap:

In the first game of the day STAC pitcher Mike Aviles struck out six batters and gave up three runs in five innings.  Matt Marotta was 2-3 at bat while Dan McDermott was 1-2 with two RBI's.  The game remained tied 3-3 until the bottom of the seventh when the Cougars loaded the bases on an error and two walks, setting the stage for senior Aaron Hoffstatter who drew a walk to score senior Jorge Torres with the winning run.

Game 2 Recap:

The Second game of the day the Spartans struggled both at bat and on the mound.  Caldwell received strong offensive performances from Jon Hoffstatter and Jon Irwin who were 2-3 at the plate including a home run each.  STAC pitcher Kevin Ryan gave up seven runs in 4.2 innings.
