Spartans Comeback Falls Short

The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team lost to the visiting University of Bridgeport 4-3, in this afternoon's contest. The Spartans were down 3-0 heading into the bottom of the 6th when Kevin Connors and Joe Guistino each had a hit to score Matt Smith and Vin Malzahn putting the Spartans on the board and bringing them within one.
Bridgeport scored again in the top of the 7th which ended up being the game winning run. The Spartans scored their final run off a Nick Barbalato single which scored Dan McDermott in the bottom of the 7th . STAC had a chance to tie the game in the final inning as McDermott singled and Joe Antenucci reached on an error setting up the go ahead run. However the Spartans popped up their final two at bats leaving the runners stranded. Antenucci was 3-for-4 for STAC while Barbalato and McDermott were 2-for-4 at bat.
The Spartans will travel to Bridgeport on Saturday looking for a rematch of today's game. Saturday's game will be a double header with the first game starting at noon.
