STAC Seniors Finish in Style, Defeat Concordia 12-1
The St. Thomas Aquinas baseball team beat Concordia College 12-1 in today's ECC contest. The Spartans got on the board behind a Matt Smith single followed by a 2-RBI double by senior Joe Guistino. Fellow seniors Kevin Connors and Chris Zapata each added a RBI off a single and double respectively. Matt Marotta hit a RBI single as STAC took a 6-0 first inning lead.
The Spartans kept things going adding a run in the second and third innings. Vin Malzahn hit a double to score Dan McDermott who was hit by a pitch. McDermott added a RBI single in the third to score Marotta who doubled. Both of the sophomores were 2-for-4 for the day while Malzahn went 2-for-3.
STAC added four more runs in the sixth as Connors added his second RBI along with a RBI single from freshman Nick Barbalato. George Wargo reached on a fielder's choice scoring Dan Stroud who later came around to score the Spartans final run of the game.
The Spartans received additional contirbutions from their other seniors as Scott Sadowski who normally pitches caught a line drive to right for the final out in the eighth. John Mulder added a hit while Jon Garvey helped out at second.
STAC will travel to Concordia on Sunday for the final two games of the regular season. The first round of the ECC playoffs will begin on Wednesday, May 6th. STAC would like to thank all of the seniors for their hard work and dedication to St. Thomas Aquinas College Athletics.
