The STAC Baseball team sandwiched a pair of lopsided victories (17-10 & 16-2) with a 4-2 loss to take the 3-games series against Queens College. The two wins keep the Spartans near the top of the crowded ECC at 6-4. Overall the Spartans are 14-13.

Game 1

Vin Malzahn hit a 2-run homer in the 1st inning and the Spartans never  looked back as they won 17-10. STAC stretched the lead to 12-4 going into the 6th before a Queens rally made it 12-9, but STAC responded with 5 more runs in the 7th & 8th, sparked by a 2-run double from John Mazzello, and a 2-run single from Pat Murray.

Malzahn went 2-for-4 on the day with 3 RBIs. Lead-off hitter, Pat Murray had a perfect day, reaching base in all 6 plate appearances, scoring 4 runs, collecting 2 hits,  with 2 RBIs, 2 walks, and a stolen base. Dave Schwartz went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Dan McDermott doubled and had 3 RBI. Fernando Peralta and Chris Zapata both tripled and scored a combined 5 runs. Mike Aviles picked up his 4th ECC victory.

Game 2

The spartan offense was stifled by Queens starter, Brian Honeyman, as they managed only 5 hits in a 4-2 loss.

Game 3

Led by Kevin Connors, the Spartan bats once again came alive for a 16-2 vicory. The sophomore infielder went 5-for-5 with 3 doubles and 8 RBIs. He scored 4 runs and swiped 2 bases.
