Boxscore
Behind a 15-hit offensive attack and a 3-hit, 1-run pitching performance from Mike Aviles, the Spartans easily defeated Molloy College 13-3 in Rockville Centre on Thursday. STAC scored 3 in the 1st inning and never looked back as they built a 13-1 lead.
In the first inning an RBI single from Dan McDermott (Levittown, NY), an RBI double from Chris Zapata (Stamford, CT), and a sacrifice fly by Joe Giustino (Old Bethpage, NY) plated three runs. Vin Malzahn (Port Jervis, NY) would drive in the fourth run in the 2nd inning and that would be all freshman starting pitcher, Mike Aviles (Suffern, NY) would need. He would go 7 innings, allowing only one run on three hits, while striking out three.
In the 4th inning, STAC would tack on another run with an RBI single from Zapata. In the 6th, McDermott would collect his third RBI of the day on a 2-RBI single to center. Fernando Peralta (Pine Bush, NY) would stretch the lead to 10-1 with a 2-RBI single in the 7th. The Spartans would score 3 more in the 9th.
For the day, McDermott went 3-for-4, 3 RBIs, and 3 runs. Zapata went 3-for-5, 2 RBIs. Mike Triana (New Milford, NJ) went 3-for-6. John Mazzello (Hyde Park, NY) went 2-for-4, 3 runs. Ottice Reda (Chestnut Ridge, NY) went 2-for-4, 2 runs and Peralta went 1-for-4 with 3 RBIs.
