SPARTANS TAKE TWO FROM MERCY, GRAB SHARE OF 1st PLACE in ECC

FRESHMEN MIKE AVILES AND DAN McDERMOTT LEAD STAC

 

In game one, starting pitcher Brian LaMarr (Flushing, NY) went 6.1 innings, leaving in the 7th in a 2-2 game. Freshmen reliever, Mark Fochesato (Middletown, NY) came in and recorded his 6th win of the season, working 1.2 innings, as STAC scored in 8th when Fernando Peralta (Pine Bush, NY) singled, stoled second, moved to third, and then scored on a double steal. Jon Della Monica (Nanuet, NY) recorded his 7th save, striking out two Mercy batters in the 9th. Mike Triana (New Milford, NJ) went 3-for-4.

 

In game two, Mike Aviles (Suffern, NY) went the distance in the 7-inning game, recording 8 strikeouts and yielding only 3 hits for his 6th victory of the season. Shortstop, John Mazzello (Hyde Park, NY) had two hits, including a double, and scored a run. Dan McDermott (Levittown, NY) broke open a close game in the 5th with a 2-run homer to left field. He then collected his 3rd RBI with a sacrifice fly in the 7th inning. 

 

STAC notched their 24th victory, raised their conference record to 14-8, and grabbed a share of first place in the East Coast Conference.
