Spartans Come up Short 6-5, 4-0 in DH vs Nationally Ranked Franklin Pierce

The Spartans staked themselves to 5-0 lead, but were unable to hold the lead and suffered a 6-5 loss to Franklin Pierce. An injury to Starting pitcher Joel Violette (Fredericton, Canada) in the 2nd inning forced the Spartans to go to the bullpen early. Freshman Mark Fochesato (Middletown, NY) came on to do a stellar job, holding the #1 ranked team in the region to 4 hits and one earned run over 4 2/3 innings or work.

In game #2 Starter Brian LaMarr kept the Raven batters at bay, limiting all their earned runs (3) to one swing of the bat, a 2-out, 2-strike, bases loaded triple in the 3rd inning. The Spartans could muster no offense against the Franklin Pierce starter and fell 4-0. Freshman Dan McDermott collected three hits to lead STAC's offense.

The Spartans finish the Florida trip at 5-5 and now stand 7-8 as they get ready to start their northeast schedule, which includes regional games in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. The 27-game East Coast Conference schedule begins this Thursday at Molloy College.
