2008 Baseball Golf Outing
St. Thomas collected 24 hits and scored 22 runs while allowing
only two earned runs in a couple ECC victories at C.W. Post
today.
Freshman Mark
Fochesato (Middletown, NY) hurled 6 innings, allowed 5
hits and struck out 4 in picking up the victory.
He issued no walks and the Pioneers managed only one run
(unearned) off the right-hander.
The Spartans scored 1 in the 3rd of a John Mazzello (Hyde Park,
NY) RBI double, another in the 4th off a two-out RBI
single from Joe
Guistino (Old Bethpage, NY). STAC scored 5 runs in the
5th off four C.W. Post errors, singles from Freshmen Dan McDermott
(Levittown, NY) & Kevin Ryan
(Levittown, NY), a 2-RBI double from Fernando Peralta
(Pine Bush, NY).
Pat
Murray (Demarest, NJ) would add to the lead with a
2-RBI single in the 7th and Guistino would pick up his 3rd RBI of
the game with a 2-RBI single in the 8th as the Spartans built an
11-1 lead.
McDermott and Ryan drove in a combined 7 runs and sophomore
lefty, Brian
LaMarr (Flushing, NY) hurled a complete game, issuing
only one walk and allowing one earned run in leading STAC to
victory in game 2.
With STAC up 1-0 in the 3rd, Ryan launched a 3-run homer to
give the Spartans a 4-0 lead. After building a 5-0 lead
the Spartan defense loosened up and allowed three unearned runs in
the bottom of the 5th. But the offense erased the defensive miscues
with 3 runs in the top of the 6th. Two of those runs would come
from a McDermott 2-RBI single. Kevin Connors (W.
Babylon, NY) drove in the other run with an RBI single.
The Spartans added three more in the 7th inning off an RBI
double from Mazzello and 2-RBI double from McDermott. The lead
built to 11-3. The Pioneers added 4 in the 7th, all
unearned.
For the day McDermott went 6-for-9 with 2 doubles, 4 RBIs, 3
runs, and stole 2 bases. Mazzello went 4-for-8 with 2 doubles, 4
runs, and 2 RBIs. Guistino went 4-for-7, 3 RBIs, and 2 runs.
The Spartans improve to 12-10 overall and 4-2 in the East Coast
Conference. They will take on C.W. Post tomorrow for the 3rd and
final game of the series at Veterans Memorial Field in Orangeburg,
NY. 1:00pm first pitch.
