MALZHAN & TRIANA DRIVE IN FOUR RUNS, VIOLETTE GETS WIN
Senior pitcher Joel Violette (Fredericton, Canada) went 5 1/3 innings, allowing only 3 hits and 2 runs as the Spartans defeated the University of Bridgeport 6-4. Relievers Mark Fochesato (Middletown, NY) and Jon Della Monica (Tappan, NY) pitched the final 2 2/3, striking out 6 Bridgeport batters.
Vin Malzahn (Port Jervis, NY) put the Spartans on the board in the 1st with a 2-RBI double to the gap in right-center. STAC added to the lead in the 2nd with an RBI single from Mike Triana (West Milford, NJ) and an RBI sac-fly from John Mazzello (Hyde Park, NY) as STAC built a 4-0 lead by the fourth inning.
In the 7th, Freshman Kevin Ryan (Levittown, NY) launched a double to right-center and Triana picked up his 2nd RBI of the day with a single to left scoring Ryan (his 2nd run of the day).
