Spartan Bats Explode, Trounce Bloomfield 21-8

@ Lynn University, Boca Raton, Florida

Dormant for most of the first week of play, the Spartan bats finally made their prescence felt in the final game of their Florida pre-season trip defeating Bloomfield College 21-8. Aided by wild Bloomfield pitching STAC took an 8-0 lead in the first frame and never looked back.

Freshman Fernando Peralta (Pine Bush, NY) put a cap on the 8-run first inning with a 2-run triple. Senior Co-Captain, Javier Diaz (Dobson, NC) went 4-for-5 with 4 RBIs and a homerun. Sophomore catcher, Jonathan Garvey (Brooklyn, NY) added two hits and 4 RBIs. Sophomore infielder, Chris Zapata (Stamford, CT) ripped a 2 RBI double. Freshman first baseman, Vinny Malzahn (Port Jervis, NY), had two hits, one of which was a 2-run homer, the first of his college career. Kevin Sharpe (East Meadow, NY) contributed 2 hits.

The pitching was led by starter Mike Pasch (Montvale, NJ) who surrendered a lone  unearned run. Senior co-captain, John Muller (Mahopac, NY), retired the last six Bloomfield batters in order in a stellar relief appearance. STAC will begin its northern phase of the schedule on Saturday at Felician College.
